Action Book Club: Children First
For our December meeting, we're excited to partner with Children First / Communities in Schools. This organization provides services and resources so that students can come to school ready to learn, graduate and succeed in life. Too many students live in families that are unable to afford basic needs such as food, housing, and healthcare- which creates barriers to learning. One of the many services they provide is a clothing closet providing clothes to kids in need.
For our service project this time, we'll gather some clothes (ONLY IN THE TYPES AND SIZES LISTED BELOW) to bring to the meeting on Dec. 6 and donate to Children First. We'll meet at The Hop on Merrimon in the corner with the couches.
Here are the items currently needed for the students served:
Kids S-XL sweatpants/athletic pants
JR sizes of boys clothing (6th grade boys)
*new, packaged underwear for boys and girls (all sizes needed)
*new, packaged socks for boys and girls (all sizes needed)
Black dress pants and white button down shirts for boys and girls (5th and 6th graders)- chorus and band concert attire
ABOUT ACTION BOOK CLUB
Welcome to our new all ages book club at Spellbound called the Action Book Club. We'll read about a subject and then take concrete action to make our community a better place. We'll meet every other month, with the current theme and a list of suggested books at every reading level announced ahead of time. Pick one for the whole family to read together or everyone who wants to wants to participate can read a book on their own. At the meeting, we'll gather to take part in an easy and fun service project that ties in with the theme. The youngest kids may need help from an adult, but everyone should be able to participate. We'll also have a guest from our partner organization.
Below is a suggested reading list.
